Seems the landscape is littered with options
As we continue our community prospect list, it got me to thinking about the prospects of years gone by that never made it. The names of those that were supposed to make it in the major leagues and make something of an impact on the Phillies at large. Thinking back on them, especially in recent memory, there are many. A few to consider:
- Adonis Medina: a guy who kept rising up prospect rankings by virtue of being good in a bad system, Medina just never could put it all together to crack a big league rotation. For me, another example of when teams wait too long to use prospects as a trade piece
- Greg Golson: remember when the team had this philosophy of drafting athletes high in the first round, no matter their actual baseball playing talent? Golson is one of those guys that exemplifies that to me
- The Baby Aces: ah, the simple refrain learned from watching baseball over and over and over again – TINSTAAPP: there is no such thing as a pitching prospect. It’s something that needs to be repeated often for anyone that gets excited about those pitchers that make scouts drool, yet can’t back it up. You know the names – Brody Colvin, Jarred Cosart, Trevor May. Oh, what could have been….
These are but a few of the prospects that have excited us, gotten us moving with anticipation of brighter days ahead, only to have them fall back to Earth with disappointment. Which former Phillies prospect did you have high hopes for, only to see him (or them, if there are multiple) let you down in the end?
