At long last, all is revealed
It was the question on everyone’s lips: Turner or Schwarber? In coffee shops, bars, and barbershops from Manayunk to Passyunk, the question rose into the air like smoke and hung over the heads of quizzical, impatient Phillies fans like a cloud. At times, it seemed like a battle might break out between rival supporters of each leadoff candidate, with proud Schwarbarians threatening to break down the doors and start an all-out brawl with defiant Turner fans.
All right, I took some creative liberties there. Still, people were wondering who would bat first for the 2025 Fightins. But thankfully, we need not wonder any longer. Shortly before the Phillies opened their season with a extra-innings win against the former employer of both Turner and Schwarber, Rob Thomson confirmed the plan:
Rob Thomson announces the Phillies will begin the season alternating Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber in the lead off spot:
“I’m just gonna try and wiggle it with Trea leading off versus lefties and Schwarber leading off versus righties and see where we go from there.” pic.twitter.com/FyDI34gD32

Both men get the honor. We stand to enjoy a cornucopia of leadoff delights, with both solo Schwarbombs and Turner-scoring cleanup Schwarbombs. That is, if all goes according to plan.
So. The question of the day is: What do you think of Topper’s leadoff plan?
