Are they really done?
Yesterday, I tried to figure out why the Phillies would be done spending money and acquiring free agents. “THE LUXURY TAX!” is the easiest answer there is since it’s so easy to figure out thanks to widely available explainers for the topic.
But what if the team just likes who they have and aren’t interested in adding anyone else?
As is, this is a good team, of course. It certainly feels like it can improve in places, but at this point, where might that even be? It’s probably best to simply wait to see which teams fall out of playoff contention in July and use that to make trades. It could also help the minor league system produce better trade chips so that teams would be more apt to making a deal with the Phillies.
On to the links.
Phillies news:
- There are still players out there that can help the Phillies. Todd Zolecki has one in particular that would be a fit.
MLB news:
- There are a lot of free agents left to ink a deal, but where will the top fifteen still on the board end up landing ($)?
- Looks like the ownership of the Padres is about to get messy with the widow of the late owner suing Peter Seidler’s brothers.
- David Wright is going to have his number retired by the Mets in July. Totally fine; he was a good player.
