The Philadelphia Phillies have a rising infield prospect in Aroon Escobar. Currently at Low-A Clearwater, Escobar is teammates with top catching prospect Eduardo Tait. The Clearwater Threshers currently lead the Florida State League West Division with a 9-6 record, largely thanks to Escobar and Tait excelling. Escobar is playing at his highest minor league level yet. Previously, he spent the last three seasons between the Dominican Summer League and the Florida Complex League. Escobar was signed by the Phillies in January of 2022 out of Venezuela at the age of 17. He will be Rule 5 Draft eligible next offseason, and he could be in High-A or Double-A by the time that decision would need to be made.
In 12 games this season, Escobar has a .404/.456/.673 line with three home runs and 16 RBI. He also has a 202 wRC+, a .522 wOBA, and a .500 BABIP so far. His strikeout rate is 22.8% and his walk rate is 7.0%. Escobar has the third best batting average among qualified Florida State League players this season. His 1.129 OPS ranks as the sixth best in the Florida State League. Escobar leads qualified Threshers players in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. He also leads the team in home runs, where he ranks tied for the third most in the league, and RBI, where he is tied for the second most in the league.

Minor League Performance Heading Into This Year
In 2024, Escobar had a .338/.495/.481 line with three home runs and 17 RBI in 24 games. He also had a 171 wRC+, a .479 wOBA and a .354 BABIP in those Florida Complex League games, along with an outstanding 9.6% strikeout rate and an impressive 20.2% walk rate. This gave him a 2.10 BB/K rate in 2024.
Escobar had a .209/.343/.300 line with one home run and 24 RBI in 33 games in 2023. That year, he had a 88 wRC+ with a .335 wOBA and a .227 BABIP in the Dominican Summer League. Escobar also recorded 13 stolen bases that year, and put up a 9.7% strikeout rate and a 14.9% walk rate. Escobar had a 124 wRC+ and a .732 OPS in 48 DSL games in 2022.
Current Place In Prospect Rankings And Future Outlook
Escobar is the 13th-ranked prospect in the organization according to MLB Pipeline. Devin Saltiban and the top position player prospect in the organization, Aidan Miller, are the two infielders currently ranked ahead of Escobar. It is worth noting that Escobar was not in the MLB Pipeline Top 30 for the Phillies at the start of last season. He still has a lot of room for development as well. MLB Pipeline currently expects him to reach the majors in 2028. Escobar has had extensive playing time at second base and third base in the minor leagues. So far this year, he has exclusively been playing second base. It would not be a surprise to see Escobar enter the Top 100 prospect rankings this year. If possible, the Phillies should try to hold onto him at this year’s trade deadline.
