The Philadelphia Phillies have activated outfielder Brandon Marsh from the 10-day IL during his recovery from a right hamstring strain. In correspondence to this move, the Phillies optioned infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Marsh returned from his Reading (AA) rehab assignment before the game on June 15th. The Phillies are getting a big piece back to their lineup. Marsh is one of the backbones of this core of the team, and fans want him to resign. Marsh signed a one-year, $766,500 contract with the Phillies, including a $766,500 guaranteed contract.

Phillies Outfielder Activated Off IL
Brandon Marsh Returns For The Phillies
Marsh found himself on the IL on June 3rd following a hamstring strain while running the bases on June 2nd in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. He knew something was up when he felt something while running to first on a single. Marsh then grabbed the back of his leg in pain after attempting to round second base one batter later in the eighth inning. He was then removed from the game and lifted for a pinch runner. Marsh is 26 years old and has recorded a .265 average with six home runs and 26 RBIs in 52 games this year. Across four seasons with the LA Angels (2021-22) and the Phillies (2022-present), he has sported a .260 average with 31 home runs and 157 RBIs in 389 games.
Weston Wilson, a 29-year-old player, has had a limited performance with the Phillies this season, going 0 for 4 in two games. His MLB debut was on August 9th, 2023, and he showed promise by going 5-for-16 (.313) with a home run and two RBIs in eight games last season. While fans are excited about Marsh’s return, it’s unfortunate for Wilson that he couldn’t get as much playing time with the team. However, he received a significant bonus for the UK trip, which was a great opportunity for him.
What It Means For The Phillies
With Marsh’s return, the Phillies now have a solid outfield, potentially allowing Whit Merrifield to spend the majority of starts in the infield. The team is also eagerly awaiting Trea Turner’s return, which could further strengthen their lineup. Marsh, who ranked as one of the top three prospects in the Angels system back in 2019, is known for his long hair and beard, and he continues to uphold a strong reputation.
