Let’s celebrate (?) the ten-year anniversary of the worst team in baseball
In sports, we usually celebrate the anniversaries of teams that accomplished good things. The 2008 Phillies were honored in 2018 for their ten-year anniversary of winning it all. The 1993 Phillies were honored in 2023 for their magical season that took the city by storm but came up just short. The 2022 Phillies who won an unexpected National League pennant will be honored in the future for much of the same manner.
But what about the teams that accomplished things on the other end of the spectrum? Yes, we’re talking about the teams that are in the record books for all the wrong reasons. They gave fans lasting memories too, even if you don’t want to remember them. That scar tissue never heals, but as time goes on, it becomes a source of a good laugh or a reminder of just how far we’ve come.
Introducing Nowhere To Go But Up, the official The Good Phight remembrance series honoring the ten-year anniversary of the 2015 Phillies, the worst team in baseball. Why are we worried about remembering such a wretched time period in the team’s history? Glad you asked.
2025 also happens to be the 10th anniversary of when The Good Phight began. What once began as a merry band of pranksters staunchly dedicated to fighting the fight about how good Bobby Abreu actually was (hence, the good phight) has morphed into your favorite site that covers the team on a daily basis.
As for the team, for those who don’t remember, or until now didn’t want to, those 2015 Phillies finished with a record of 63-99, beating out the Cincinnati Reds by one game for the worst record in baseball. They weren’t the worst team in Phillies history, as that honor belongs to the 1941 Phillies who lost 111 games. But, 2015 was the worst season for the Phillies since they lost 107 games in 1961. The 2015 team also has the honor of being the first Phillies team in the 21st century to be the worst, meaning there’s plenty of video evidence to preserve their futility forever.
Over the course of the 2025 MLB season, we will be bringing you stories and updates from the 2015 Phillies. Everything between monthly recaps to game reviews to standout (good or bad) player performances as well as contemporary news articles. We’ll travel the highs such as Cole Hamels’ no hitter to the many, many, MANY lows, such as the game and image that came to define the lowest point of the Phillies rebuild era.
We hope you’ll join us as we drag ourselves back into the depths of the 2015 Phillies for the sake of some laughs and some trauma bonding.
