MLB insider at ESPN Jeff Passan wrote that Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm is on the trade block. Passan wrote the Phillies are “looking to shake up their team” this offseason. Bohm being traded would be a significant shakeup to the Phillies infield. It would not be shocking to see the Phillies trade other supporting role players this offseason as well. Bohm is under team control through the 2026 season. Additionally, Bohm is entering his age 28 season in 2025. Bohm had a .280/.332/.448 line recording 15 home runs and 97 RBI in 143 games in 2024. To add, Bohm had a 115 wRC+ and made the All-Star team. Bohm being a trade candidate leads to uncertainty for the Phillies infield this offseason.

Potential Trade Partners
There is a belief that the Phillies would include Bohm in a deal for pitching help. Passan mentions the Phillies as a potential destination for Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. Bohm being included in a trade for Crochet would make sense. According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, White Sox general manager Chris Getz wants position players in return for Crochet in a potential deal. Bohm would not be the lone player in a hypothetical trade for Crochet but would likely be the centerpiece of the return. Ranger Suárez will be free agent eligible after the 2025 season contributing to the Phillies having interest in Crochet.
Another potential deal is trading Bohm to the Milwaukee Brewers for closer Devin Williams. With relief pitchers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez being free agents the Phillies will probably seek bullpen help this offseason. Passan noted Williams as a potential trade candidate as well. Williams is free agent eligible after the 2025 season. Furthermore, the Brewers declined the team option Williams had for 2025. This means Williams will see his salary set in arbitration unless an extension is reached with the Brewers or a team he gets traded to.
Replacement Options
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is a top trade candidate at the position. Arenado has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Bohm. As noted by Derrick Goold of STL Today, Arenado would have to waive his no-trade clause. Arenado is under contract through the 2027 season. In addition, Arenado is entering his age 34 season in 2025. Passan wrote that the Cardinals would need to take on some of the salary to facilitate a trade. Arenado is scheduled to make $74 million over the remaining time on his contract. The Colorado Rockies are paying $5 million of it in 2025 and 2026.
The best candidate to replace Bohm is longtime Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman, a free agent. Bregman is by far the best third baseman available in free agency this offseason. If the Phillies intend to trade Bohm, they should go all in on signing Bregman. Entering his age 31 season Bregman joining the Phillies would improve their lineup and infield defense. Bregman won the AL Gold Glove Award for third base in 2024. Additionally, Bregman ranks well in chase rate and strikeout rate, which is where the Phillies need help.
