Does this weekend change anything?
The Phillies took two out of three from the Dodgers this weekend, winning a series that was highly entertaining to watch. Both team did good things and had some bad moments as well. For a series that was billed at an early season possible preview of the National League Championship Series, it certainly did live up to that standard.
That brings us to the question of the day: do you see the Phillies as the second best team in the National League? Now, after this series, one might be tempted to put the Phillies ahead of the Dodgers, using the logic of “they beat them twice, so they must be better!” We all know that this isn’t really true, that one series does not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme.
It does show that the Phillies can hang with the Dodgers and, if circumstances are right, can beat them in a series. Atlanta has been dreadful to begin the season, though they are getting reinforcements soon. The Padres have been quite good to begin the season, as have the Giants and Cubs. It’s going to be a tight race all season.
