It’s not a bad idea
Spring training begins in earnest tomorrow, even though most of the roster is already in camp. That means players are already answering questions about the season at hand and one of the things that will be talked about a lot is lineup construction.
The team was looking to be “creative” with their offseason activity these past few months, but fell short in what they were trying to accomplish. Many different rumors were out there as far as what they were hoping to do, but as we now know, nothing came to fruition. That means they’ll have to use that creativity in other ways with the roster. The biggest idea, outside of taking playing time and spreading it around, is to tinker with the lineup and how it looks different from 2024.
Kyle Schwarber was being interviewed the other day and had to answer some questions about it already. Among other things in this article, Schwarber talks about the lineup:
“Wherever my name gets written, that’s where I’m going to hit. I’m player number 12,” Schwarber said. “I’m not a manager, I’m not a coach. I get paid to play baseball for these guys so wherever my name gets written, I’ll play. I just want to win the World Series and wherever we think our best lineup needs to go to continually win baseball games, that’s what I’ll do. I really don’t have a personal attachment to where I hit. I just want to go out there any try to win baseball games.”
It’s then suggested that out of all the ideas being bandied about, this might be the lineup order, one through five, used most often to help with the matchups during a game:
- Trea Turner
- Bryce Harper
- Alec Bohm
- Kyle Schwarber
- Nick Castellanos
That’s not a bad looking top five.
There are other ways to construct a lineup as well. With the success that both Harper and Schwarber showed last season against left handed pitching, putting the duo second and third in the lineup would theoretically work out well. It’s just one way to try and squeeze out more production from the group of players that look to bring another parade to Philadelphia in the same calendar year.
