He’s almost here!
You’ve heard of Mr. October, but it’s about to be Mr. June’s time to shine.
Phillies’ designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has played in 158 games in the month of June in his 10-year career.
In those games, he has 141 hits while adding 120 RBIs and an impressive 55 home runs. Average that out with his 561 career at-bats in June, and Schwarber hits a home run in every 10.2 at-bats.
Last June, Schwarber hit eight of his total 47 home runs on the year and 12 of his 46 home runs in the previous June.
Mr. June is already heating up for his month, recording six hits in the last three games, with two of those hits coming from the long ball.
The Phillies have an off day before starting a three-game series at home against the St. Louis Cardinals, two of which will be played in June.
The popular chain Wawa even dedicated June last year to Schwarber with its HoagieFest promotion, also known as SchwarberFest. Wawa first did this during the 2022 playoffs to honor the left-handed slugger for his home run power on the field.
The chain also decided to bring it back during the 2023 playoffs.
“Heck, I’m from Ohio, so I should be used to cold weather,” Schwarber said on his success in June.
“So who knows.”
The Phillies sit atop the NL East, six games ahead of the Atlanta Braves, with a league-leading 39 wins through the club’s first 57 games of the 2024 season.
Schwarber’s production in June could lift this team to even higher heights if he continues to live up to the Mr. June hype.
Will the 31-year-old slugger continue his historic success this June?
That remains to be seen, but it sure will be fun to watch.
