The Philadelphia Flyers are not doing some transactions for the week. Announced by the team Friday afternoon, the Flyers have sent down Adam Ginning to Lehigh Valley and have recalled goaltender Aleksei Kolosov. And they put Egor Zamula on Injured Reserve to make the roster numbers work.
Transaction: We have recalled goaltender Aleksei Kolosov from the @LVPhantoms (AHL). Defenseman Adam Ginning has been loaned back to Lehigh Valley.
Additionally, defenseman Egor Zamula (upper body) has been placed on the injured reserve, retroactive to January 23rd. pic.twitter.com/kOLjaL4dFu

There is also speculation that Emil Andrae will be the defenseman called up to replace Ginning but the Flyers haven’t confirmed that just yet.
Ginning got into Thursday night’s game against the Islanders, playing just under 13 minutes but not registering any points. Andrae has played 20 games with the Flyers this season and has a goal and four assists in that time. In 15 games with the Phantoms he’s scored twice with seven helpers. The six defenseman for Sunday’s game against Colorado should be (barring injury) Nick Seeler, Jamie Drysdale, Travis Sanheim, Cam York, Rasmus Ristolainen and Andrae.
Perhaps the most perplexing news concerns Kolosov’s recall. This could mean one of a few things, none of them ideal. If Ivan Fedotov was injured or dinged up against the Islanders, perhaps Kolosov is replacing him as the backup for Sunday’s game — the Russian netminder did have an Islander crash into him in the middle of Thursday’s game. If Sam Ersson tweaked something in his time during the Flyers’ 5-0 loss to New Jersey, the tandem Sunday could be Fedotov and Kolosov. Kolosov, who was sent down to Lehigh Valley earlier in January after the Flyers juggled three goaltenders, wasn’t great in his time with Philadelphia. Sadly he hasn’t looked better in Lehigh Valley with a slightly higher save percentage (.874) but a worse goals-against average (3.59) in seven games overall this season.
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are off until next Friday with the AHL All-Star Classic taking place this weekend, so this could just to keep Kolosov warm, which is possibly the most logical reason.
The personnel being shipped in and out the last two days doesn’t really change the numbers. The loss of Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost is cancelled out by the additions of Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko. With Egor Zamula going on Injured Reserve, that opens up the spot for Kolosov. With Ginning going down and the likelihood of Andrae being called up, the Flyers see no additions or subtractions to the total team roster number.
In additional news, the Flyers thanked Farabee and Frost with a short video posted online this afternoon.
And the Flyers announced the new numbers Kuzmenko and Pelletier will wear. Pelletier will wear No. 22 while Kuzmenko will wear No. 96. Pelletier’s number has been worn by Rick Tocchet, Luke Schenn and Ville Leino. Brendan Lemieux was the last Flyer to wear that number in 2023. Meanwhile, Kuzmenko will be the first Flyers player in franchise history to sport that jersey number.
