The Eagles might’ve played one of their ugliest games of the season last Sunday, but they managed to pull off a 22-16 win against the Carolina Panthers. And doing so helped successfully clinchtheir 4th straight playoff berth during the Sirianni/Hurts era.
Now that they have their foot in the door to the postseason, they can’t lose track of the final month of the regular season.
The 1 Seed in the NFC IS still available (although that window is closing), but that shouldn’t stop the Eagles from pursuing the 2 seed, and the NFC East title.
The Final Push In The NFC
Teams are running out of breathing room around the League.
While the 49ers added another loss to their now 6-8 season. The Falcons & Cardinals could be joining them as mathematically eliminated teams.
With another win, the Rams continue to look inconsistent, yet threatening to teams around the NFL. The Eagles might’ve held them to 20 points, but seeing the Bills give up 44 is a sight to behold for a Rams team that’s now won 3 straight since the Birds were on the west coast. As they continue to win, they creep their way closer into the wildcard conversation. Leading to a potential rematch.
If the playoffs started tomorrow (they don’t), the Eagles would play host to the Green Bay Packers. Getting to play their Week 1 opponent again with an actual home field advantage.
Clinching Opportunities For Both Teams
So far the Eagles have only guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. But their opportunity to clinch the division, and the right to host a playoff game comes against the Steelers. Plus a little help from the Saints (if they’re lucky).
Here’s what both teams will need to secure their next, or first spot in the playoffs.
Steelers:
Clinch an AFC playoff spot with
- Victory over the Eagles
- Miami Loss/Tie
+Indianapolis Loss/Tie
Eagles:
Clinch the NFC East with
- Victory over the Steelers
+Commanders Loss/Tie
A very daunting task for both teams to cover if they wish to get in this week.
As for the Eagles, it’s unlikely the Saints do them any favors this week without Derek Carr. In which case they’d likely find themselves facing the Commanders in another game where both teams could have a chance at a clinching scenario.
