Former Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly was preparing for a new NFL Season — having already unloaded top Eagle talent like Shady McCoy, DeSean Jackson, and Michael Vick when he hired young Ryan Day as quarterbacks coach in 2015. Now Day and Kelly are both celebrating a CFP National Championship with Ohio State. Day is being heralded as Buckeyes Head Coach and once again — Kelly is a candidate being considered for NFL coordinator positions.
It’s hard to remember the time nearly three years under Chip Kelly’s leadership had left the Eagles devoid of many of its star players and a Philadelphia team once at the top of the NFC spiraling out of control. After he was fired by the Eagles with one game left in the 2015 season — one seasons in San Francisco didn’t win over the 49ers, either.
But the man that once brought a new type of quick-strike offense to the NFL has managed to stay relevant. Before joining Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes — Kelly had been Head Football Coach for six seasons at UCLA.
With 30 NFL teams besides the Eagles and the Chiefs already working tirelessly to prepare themselves for the 2025–2026 NFL season — candidates for coordinator positions have reached the college ranks and Kelly’s name is once again front and center.
Just three weeks ago — Ohio State’s offense overpowered the #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the CFP National Championship Game 34–23. The Buckeyes held off an incredible Notre Dame comeback in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Kelly’s offense moved the ball for 445 total yards and overcame one turnover — and exploded for a 21-point second quarter. Ohio State’s championship rosters includes local Philadelphia talent like Downington native Will Howard, and St. Joe’s Prep Keenan Nelson Jr., Maxwell Roy and Isaiah West.
