The legal tampering period was quiet for Eagles additions.
Being the only team to not have an external free agent signing during the 2 day period.
With internal extensions to Saquon Barkley & Zack Baun, the Eagles had taken one of their own free agents off the market before 31 other teams had a chance.
While the Eagles had a quiet start. Teams got to work on large deals, including:
- Grady Jarrett 3x$45M (CHI)
- Talanoa Hufanga 3x$45M (DEN)
- D.J. Reed 3x$48M (DET)
- Charvarius Ward 3x$60M (IND)
- Camryn Bynum 4x$60M (IND)
- Harold Landry 3x$43.5M (NE)
- Justin Reid 3x$31.5M (NO)
Before the Eagles started making additions to the roster. Teams had gone out and signed all the big ticket free agents to multi-year deals. Something the Eagles have to be wary of.
Saving Money For The Future
The Eagles have plenty of young talent all over the roster, and while the offense might be ‘mostly’ locked up until 2028. There’s plenty of rookie deals on the defense that will be expiring in the coming seasons.
With incredible rookie seasons from Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell. And big contracts due for Cam Jurgens, Jalen Carter, Reed Blankenship and Jordan Davis right around the corner. The Eagles need to preserve their long term cap space to the best of their ability coming off their Super Bowl victory.
Hunting for large contracts was never in the Eagles offseason plans. Even during the combine, GM Howie Roseman asked fans for patience in their approach to the offseason.
And after a few days, the Eagles began striking deals.
1-Year Shopping Spree
In the last 24 hours the Eagles signed four free agents to 1 year deals:
- TE Harrison Bryant
- RB A.J. Dillon
- CB Adoree Jackson
- OLB Joshua Uche
Shoring up their depth after seeing multiple key parts of the Super Bowl run sign with teams throughout the league.
One year deals are the perfect way for the Eagles to bridge a new generation of the team and keep depth on the roster to bring into training camp and preseason.
With 8 picks in this year’s draft the Eagles will have plenty of additions coming to the roster in April too.
A quiet start doesn’t mean a bad start to the offseason. We’re still months away from seeing any real outlook on a Week 1 roster when the Eagles will host the 1st game of the season.
