For 18 teams in the league, the offseason begins the 2nd week of January.
For the other 14 teams across the league, it depends how far you can get in the playoffs. And whether not you can win the Super Bowl.
As for the Eagles. Sitting at 32nd can only mean one thing. They’re the last team to begin making off-season moves along with the Chiefs because they were a little preoccupied in February.
Now, with the Combine being last weekend, the legal tampering period beginning on Monday, and free agency opening on Wednesday of next week. The Eagles will have had just over a month since winning the Super Bowl before the league new year begins.
Free Agents
With six days to go, the Eagles will have to make some important decisions on their free agents:
- Josh Sweat
- Brandon Graham
- Mekhi Becton
- Avonte Maddox
- Milton Williams
- Rick Lovato
- Le’Raven Clark
- C.J. Uzomah
- Fred Johnson
- Jack Driscoll
- Nick Gates
- Parris Campbell
- Oren Burks
- Kenneth Gainwell
- Isaiah Rodgers
- Britain Covey
- Ben VanSumeren
Zack Baun was also on this list, until yesterday afternoon when Howie Roseman backed up the Brinks truck for the Defensive Player of the Year finalist.
They still have 16 free agents to decide on. A much more manageable number than the 20+ free agents after losing Super Bowl 57.
Upcoming Draft
On April 24th the 1st round of the NFL draft will begin. With the 32nd overall pick there won’t be much for Eagles fans to watch until the very end of the night. With the 32nd overall pick any realistic wish will be long off everybody’s board. That is, if the Eagles even keep their pick.
While the Eagles didn’t make any in season trades before winning the Super Bowl. They’ll still enter the 2025 draft missing a few of their picks.
Below is what they’ll be approaching late April with (barring any moves in the next month):
- Round 1, Pick 32
- Round 2, Pick 64
- Round 3, Pick 96
- Round 4
- Round 5 (from Houston)
- Round 5 (from Washington)
- Round 5
It will be unlikely that the Eagles finish the draft with these same picks, as they routinely end up trading down and acquire later round and future draft picks.
There’s a long offseason to still go. And it’s a good thing the Eagles are starting theirs aggressively.
