Since the bye week, the Eagles’ defense has been one of the best in the league.
A huge reason for that is the outstanding play from the two rookies, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and the surprising elite play from their new linebacker, Zach Baun.
They have been absolute game-changers for the Philly defense.
It’s been a long time since the Eagles had a defense of this caliber, and they look like the best defense in the league right now.
Since the bye week, the Eagles haven’t allowed more than 18 points in a game.
The Birds’ defense has been physical and violent, playing like the best in the league. The defensive line has finally come alive, the linebackers are playing at a level we haven’t seen in years, and the youth movement in the secondary has revamped how the entire defense plays.
Vic Fangio’s scheme has worked out extremely well so far. The Eagles have shut down some good quarterbacks, including Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, and the rookie sensation Jaden Daniels. They’ve also done their jobs against bad quarterbacks, holding the Giants to just three points and the Cowboys to just six. You can tell that the young defense is developing a ton of chemistry, and it will get better and better as the season rolls on.
The defense will face some tough tests in the coming weeks. They have to take on the Rams with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. Then, they take on the Ravens with MVP front-runner Lamar Jackson.
Later in the season, they play the Steelers and the Commanders again. They also have some games where they can keep building momentum. They play the Panthers, the Giants, and the Cowboys again.
This defense has been exciting and a blast to watch so far. There is room for improvement, but they’ve been playing lights out since the bye week.
Philadelphia is a championship-caliber defense and one of the best units in the entire NFL.
