The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly going to be kicking the tires on a recently retired receiver.
Per the NFL Network‘s Mike Garafolo: “Former #Bengals and #Giants WR John Ross, whose 4.22 40-yard dash was the Combine record until Xavier Worthy broke it this year, will participate in the #Eagles’ rookie camp this week on a tryout basis, sources say. Ross had retired last year but is now exploring a comeback.”
Ross announced his sudden retirement last summer after six seasons in the National Football League.
Back in 2017, the ex-Washington Huskies standout was selected one pick ahead of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes after making waves as the fastest man in NFL Combine history.
Ross actually spent the 2023 offseason with Kansas City but ultimately decided to hang up his cleats right before training camp.
Unfortunately, Ross was never quite able to live up to his ninth overall draft pick billing but at 28-years-old he’s still fairly young and still has some speed to burn on the outside.
In five seasons with the Bengals and G-Men, Ross caught 62 balls for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns.
If he’s able to make Philadelphia’s roster he’d have a chance at seeing his first regular season action since 2021.
