Kellen Moore has been the Saints coach for three days, and he’s already taking steps to build a new staff as Doug Nussmeier will likely depart Philadelphia.
After hiring Eagles assistant coach T.J. Paganetti, Josina Anderson reports that New Orleans is nearing a deal to name Nussmeier offensive coordinator.

Nussmeier has worked with Moore in Dallas and Los Angeles with the Cowboys, helping to develop Justin Herbert and Dak Prescott before that.
Nussmeier, a former NFL quarterback, was a fourth-round selection by the New Orleans Saints in the 1994 draft. Nussmeier found most of his success as a professional football player in Canada, where he was a Grey Cup champion with the British Columbia Lions in 2000.
Since his playing days ended, he has held various roles on coaching staffs in Canada, the college ranks, and the NFL and certainly could depart for personal reasons.
Nussmeier is the proud father of a potential 2026 first-round draft pick — as LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier stayed in school for his redshirt senior season rather than enter the 2025 NFL Draft, which makes him an option for any team that puts off finding its Quarterback of the Future for one year.
By joining the Saints’ coaching staff, Nussmeier would move closer to his two sons as Garrett begins his final season in Baton Rouge and younger son Colton continues his search for a college team.
