The Dallas Cowboys will have a new head coach.
Here’s some big NFC East news: the Dallas Cowboys will NOT be retaining Mike McCarthy as their head coach.
With his contract set to expire this week, reports indicate McCarthy and the Cowboys couldn’t agree on the length of an extension.
Let’s check in on our favorite Cowboys fan from Blogging The Boys to see how he’s taking this development:
The Dallas Cowboys handled this in the most embarrassing way possible.
That they denied McCarthy an interview opportunity in Chicago only to move on like this… what a small and petty front office. https://t.co/3lpmWHBp8J

The Dallas Cowboys BY CHOICE allowed an entire week’s worth of head coaching interviews to take place across the NFL – including the Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel – because they dragged their feet.
Unserious, incompetent franchise. https://t.co/7EUuzlixYO

Wow. You really hate to see this!
McCarthy’s departure can be viewed as both good news and bad news for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The good news is that the Cowboys can do worse than McCarthy. He oversaw three 12-win seasons since being hired in 2020. The Eagles went 5-5 in 10 games against him, including a 1-4 record when Dak Prescott started. Dallas might hire a downgrade to replace him.
The bad news is that McCarthy had shortcomings you could feel good about. He went 1-3 in four playoff games, becoming the only head coach to ever lose to a No. 7 seed. The Cowboys might find a replacement who raises their ceiling.
In any case, McCarthy is gone. It’ll be interesting to see who the Cowboys hire to replace him. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore might be a candidate to return to Dallas.
