Philadelphia’s front office could get poached.
Philadelphia Eagles assistant general manager Alec Halaby is interviewing for the New York Jets’ general manager vacancy on Wednesday, according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
The Jets have an opening after firing former Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas earlier this season.
Though it’d seem funny if the Jets replaced one former Eagles executive with another, it’s no surprise that Halaby is drawing interest. Philadelphia’s front office is obviously well-regarded around the NFL. Halaby is viewed as a rising star in part due to his analytics background.
The Eagles demonstrated that they highly value Halaby when they gave him one of two “assistant general manager” titles back in 2022. Part of that title change had to do with being able to prevent Halaby from interviewing for personnel jobs that don’t include full GM power.
But the Eagles can’t block Halaby’s exit if another team wants to give him personnel power. We’ll see if the Jets end up wanting to make him their next GM.
