It’s Cowboys week and a unique iteration of typical Eagles vs Cowboys matchups this time of year. The Dallas Cowboys season hopes are in major jeopardy this week, as another loss might mean the end. Overall, the team has struggled massively and is currently on a three-game losing streak to the Detroit Lions, San Fransisco 49ers, and the Atlanta Falcons last week.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are improving each week. Albeit with a slight scare against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Eagles extended their winning streak to four games. The Eagles have been vastly improving every week on both sides of the ball, and it will be important for them to keep chugging along this week.
Putting Them to Bed: Eagles vs Cowboys Picks
How the Cowboys Will Play
With Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott possibly receiving a season-ending injury last week, the Eagles will face a Cooper Rush-led offensive attack. Rush does not offer the playmaking ability that Prescott does, but he is capable. The Cowboys will lean heavily into a short passing attack where they lean on Rush to make quick decisions.
Their goal will be to carve up the Eagles defense early with a bunch of short throws to make the Eagles defense step up to the line of scrimmage. Then, they will try to hit the chunk plays down the field. The Cowboys have no run game to speak of, so they will rely on various screen plays, hitch and other short routes to move the ball consistently.
Time for the Defense to Shine
What fans of the Eagles will want to see the most this week is a dominant performance from the defense. The key here will be that the Eagles comes out aggressive rather than conservative. The Eagles could still win by playing it safe, but it would not help them in the long run.
The Eagles defense needs to come out early and challenge a Cowboys offense with a backup quarterback and not many weapons, especially if CeeDee Lamb does not play. Take away the short and easy plays early and make them try and win by throwing the ball down the field. With the Eagles corners, they should not fear many teams in the NFL in general, and much less the Cowboys offense this week.
Moreover, the Eagles ascending defensive line could have their coming-out party against the weak Cowboys offensive line. Vic Fangio has already done a good job of changing up his style of defense to become more aggressive this year. This could be the week the transition is solidified, and everyone would enjoy a smothering in this Eagles vs Cowboys matchup.
Eagles vs Cowboys Picks
Eagles Win 34-13
There’s one way this Eagles vs Cowboys matchup can end up in an upset, and it comes down to the Eagles focus. They must not look ahead to the next game against the Washington Commanders and handle business in Dallas first. The Eagles offense can likely run the ball at will in this game, and Hurts should be able to make more big plays through the air. Also, the Eagles defense should have an advantage on the defensive line and in the secondary versus the Cowboys offense.
