Howie Roseman usually makes moves that make Eagles fans, including myself, extremely excited. However, this time, he made a move that underwhelmed everyone. The Eagles have traded their star edge rusher Haason Reddick to the Jets in exchange for a 2026 3rd-round pick that can become a 2nd-round pick if he plays over 67.5% of the snaps AND has 10+ sacks.
Is this seriously the best offer they got for Reddick? Even if it was the best offer, did they have to accept it? This seems like an awful deal for the Eagles. They are already thin at edge rushers, and now they just got rid of their best player at that position for something that won’t help them for over two years. The Eagles must think Reddicks’ play will sharply decline, or they must believe that Nolan Smith is ready to take a giant leap forward in year 2. Regardless of what the Eagles think, we can all agree that they didn’t make a significant move with this trade.
Haason Reddick is coming off his fourth straight season with 11+ sacks. How are the Eagles going to replace that production? They went out and signed Bryce Huff, who is an ascending young player, but he isn’t in the same tier as Reddick. Not only was Reddick an awesome player, but he was a hometown guy who grew up in Camden, New Jersey, and played his college ball locally at Temple. This made him a fan favorite and someone who loved the Eagles. That kind of energy rubs off on fans, and when you get a local guy like that, he usually means more to the fans.
It is hard to believe the Eagles couldn’t get more in return for moving Reddick. It is a shame that they had to tear apart the defensive line by getting rid of the best player right after their most prominent leader, Fletcher Cox, retired. Hopefully, they have some kind of answer ready to go now, and hopefully, we don’t have to wait until 2026 to see a positive outcome from this trade.
