It feels like forever since the Philadelphia Eagles have played a game that we all enjoyed watching. There are many reasons this past season wasn’t enjoyable, and one of them is the horrible play of the linebackers. There is no denying that the Eagles desperately need to upgrade that position group. Lets take a look at a couple linebackers that could interest the Eagles in the upcoming draft.
Edgerrin Cooper
Cooper is the best linebacker in the draft, and the Eagles should keep their eye on him. He played at Texas A&M since 2020. He has 204 total tackles, 8,5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two interception, and 8 passes defended during his time in college. Cooper stands at 6’3″, 230 LBS. This past season he earned First-team AP All-American, and the First-team All-SEC team. He ran a 4.51 40 yard dash at the combine, and he scored an 82 total score which was second among all linebackers. Cooper would be the perfect addition the the Eagles defense.
Jeremiah Trotter JR.
This one is obvious. The Eagles took his father in the third round of the 1998 draft, and he turned out to be an amazing player ending up in the Eagles Hall of Fame. Trotter JR was an extremely smart linebacker during his time at Clemson. This past season he earned First-team all ACC and he was a finalist for the Butkus award. During his time at Clemson he had 191 tackles, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 10 passes defended. He is a bit smaller than Edgerrin Cooper, coming in at 6’0″, 230 LBS. He did not run a 40 at the combine, but he had a total score of 76, which was 6th among all linebackers.
The Eagles desperately need a good linebacker group. It is rare that they do, and it is starting to become obvious how much they don’ care about the position. It is time to turn that around, and it could start by taking one of these guys in this years draft.
