Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce will be part of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” coverage this upcoming season. He’ll be on-site for games with Ryan Clark and Marcus Spears.
During an appearance on “Whiskey Ginger with Andrew Santino,” the former All-Pro opened up about his future at ESPN.
Kelce admit that he’s going to be nervous leading up to his debut. Not even his years of podcasting will help calm him down.
Even though Kelce will be dealing with some nerves before his ESPN debut, he doesn’t necessarily view that as a bad thing.
“I think it’s good, seriously,” Kelce explained, via Awful Announcing. “Every game I ever played in my life, I played really well, and I was nervous for at least a healthy amount of it. Like not the point that you think you can’t do it, but there’s a healthy amount of respect for your opponent. Whenever I played a really good player, I always felt like I played better because all week, I was really into preparing for this guy. I studied it more. I perseverated about it when I was sleeping. I’m like, ‘If I do this, I need to make sure I do this. Otherwise, he’s gonna take care of that.’
“And when you put more effort into it because of that nervousness, I think it usually results in a better product. Now, once you’re out there, you can’t be nervous; you just gotta go. But I think it’s healthy to be nervous with where I’m at right now. Hopefully, then I prepare more. And usually, the more prepared you are, the less nervous you are when you’re actually out there.”
Kelce should be a nice addition to ESPN’s coverage since he’s both knowledgeable and charismatic.
Time will tell if Kelce can elevate “Monday Night Football” to new heights.
