The Philadelphia Eagles decimated the Washington Commanders to advance to Super Bowl 59. The team’s loaded roster heads to New Orleans with a chance at revenge from 2022. However, they could be getting a late-season reinforcement before the contest. A future Eagles Hall of Famer, whose final season was cut short due to injury, could be coming back just in time for one last ride.
A Dose of Great News
Brandon Graham could return from his regular season-ending injury in time for the Super Bowl. Multiple outlets reported this news after the dominating win. NBC Sports Philadelphia reported that there were rumblings of this the past couple of weeks. Graham responded to the possibility after advancing.
“You know what man, we’ll see tomorrow,” Graham said on Sunday night. “I’ll go meet up and we’ll see if it’s a possibility.”
Graham has been out since his stellar performance against the Rams with a torn tricep. He said previously that this would be the end of his career, but now he has a chance to hang up the cleats on the league’s grandest stage.
Graham’s Career Retrospective
The Eagles’ future Hall of Famer has been nothing short of remarkable over the span of his career. The defensive end has spent his entire 15-year career with the team and has been an impact player since day one.
After struggling his first couple of seasons, Graham started to come into his own around the mid-2010s. He consistently started notching between 5-6 sacks from 2014-2016. In 2017, Graham had a breakout campaign notching 47 combined tackles and nine and a half sacks. He was also a pivotal piece for the team in their playoff run which led to their first Super Bowl victory. In fact, his key moment came in the closing minutes of that bought. Graham sacked legendary quarterback Tom Brady leading to a fumble recovery for the Birds which sealed the win.
Graham continued to age like a fine wine, averaging eight or more sacks in both his 2019 and 2020 campaigns and he reached a career-high 11 sacks in 2022. That season, the team once again went to the Super Bowl but came up just shy against… you guessed it, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, he will have a chance to cap off his career, barring medical clearance, doing what every young kid dreams of when wanting to become an athlete. That of course is ending their career by winning a championship and riding off into the sunset.
We’ve already seen Graham succeed on the brightest stage with one legendary play on Brady. Wouldn’t it be extra poetic if Graham ended his career making another impact play, or multiple, to help this team seal another championship?
Regardless of how this season pans out, Graham has been one of the finest players to come into this organization both on and off the field. It will be special to see him end that career with such a special game. He will always be embraced in The City of Brotherly Love as a great athlete and humanitarian.
