Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Lions, Vikings? Nope, This Is the Year of the Eagle.
I couldn’t care less about last weekend at Northwest Stadium. I‘m not phased by Jalen Hurts’ in concussion protocol, or the status of Kenny Pickett’s ribs. I’m not unfeeling, I‘m just realistic. And I certainly don’t give a tush-pushing-brotherly-shoving piece of flying human excrement about how many touchdowns Jayden Daniels has, or how many yards former St. Joe’s Prep’s Olamide Zaccheaus has for the Washington-Redskin-Commander-Football Team. I really don’t care.
The reason that I don’t care is emboldened by what the Eagles have put on the field this season. If the Eagles can beat the Dak-less, Lamb-less, Cowboys and Barkley-less New York (thank you, Giants) — they will finish with a 14–3 record, tying their record in 2022–2023 and eclipsing only the 1949 and 1960 seasons. But what this Eagles team has become is much more significant than that.
I know, I know. You are getting tired of these declarative statements like the bestest ever in everdom. But when it comes to the ninety-one year existence of the Eagles, that’s what this team is. And really, it isn’t even that close. Yup, I said it. The Philadelphia Eagles will be Super Bowl Champions in 2025. You know, the opportunity to finish what they started in 2022 — now unburdened by inexperience and complete with the memory of having been there before.
It’s been 45 years since Dick Vermeil’s Eagles lost in Tampa Bay to the Buccaneers in the 1979 Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs. The team that would win the NFC the following year mirrors the current team with a young NFL Coach, elite running back, and a dominant possession receiver — actually pales in comparison from a talent perspective. Twenty years ago, when Andy Reid’s Eagles finally eclipsed the NFC Championship Game roadblock — even with TO doing pushups in his driveway couldn’t match the scoring capability of this 2024 offense.
And our beloved 2017–2018 Eagles — who gave us everything that we wanted in the NFC Playoffs of 2018 — it pains me to tell you that it’s no comparison to this current team. It even pains me to tell you that 1949 and 1960 — couldn’t hold a candle to this group. This isn’t Madden, we can’t find out.
What the Eagles do have is that internal makeup of a winner. They have an almost unstoppable offensive onslaught, a tenacious defense, an experienced defense coordinator, and rookies that aren’t only going to be impactful, they are making an impact — this year. It’s the best combination of rookie contributors and All-Pro talent in the NFL.
From the front office to field to the record books, this is the finest Eagles team to ever grace the gridiron. And that is why they will win the Super Bowl in 2025.
Any alternative speculation? I just don’t care.
