Thursday news and updates.
The Philadelphia Eagles issued their second official injury report on Thursday in advance of their Week 17 home game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles actually held practice on Thursday after being off for Christmas on Wednesday.
The Eagles listed two players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Jalen Hurts and Will Shipley.
While Hurts hasn’t yet been officially ruled out, two straight DNPs points to him not clearing the concussion protocol in time to play on Sunday. Even if he is cleared to play by then, which isn’t looking likely, he will have missed a bulk of the preparation for this weekend’s game.
Shipley is also seemingly on track to miss Sunday’s game with two straight DNPs while in the concussion protocol. The Eagles signing free agent running back Lew Nichols to their practice squad points to Shipley being out and the team temporarily elevating Nichols to be RB3 behind Saquon Barkley and Kenny Gainwell. Shipley mainly contributes on special teams, so, Nichols could be filling that role.
The Eagles listed three players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: A.J. Brown, Nakobe Dean, and Josh Sweat.
Brown was upgraded from DNP due to “rest” to limited due to “knee/rest.” Brown is less than 100% but he’ll likely play.
Dean was upgraded after being listed under DNP due to an abdominal injury on Wednesday. Seems like he might be able to start next to Zack Baun at linebacker.
Sweat upgraded from DNP due to “rest” to limited due to “ankle/rest.” Sweat is less than 100% but he’ll likely play.
The Eagles listed eight players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Kenny Pickett, Bryce Huff, Britain Covey, Saquon Barkley, Mekhi Becton, Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson, and Darius Slay.
Pickett was upgraded to full participation after being listed as limited on Wednesday. He told reporters he’ll be ready to play despite wearing extra padding on his ribs. The Eagles starting a less than 100% Pickett over a fully healthy Tanner McKee doesn’t really make sense to me but, hey, what do I know. With Pickett likely to start, McKee will be QB2. We’ll see if the Eagles decide to temporarily elevate Ian Book from the practice squad and keep him active to serve as a third quarterback.
#Eagles QB Kenny Pickett (ribs) said he was a full go in practice today. Doesn’t expect any limitations on Sunday. “Something I’ll have to deal with.” pic.twitter.com/aA2adx8oTf

Huff was listed as full for the second day in a row. It seems like he’s on track to play for the first time since Week 11. The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Eastern on Saturday to activate him to the roster so that he can play in Sunday’s game.
Covey was listed as full once again. He was ruled out in Week 16 despite being full go all week. We’ll see on Friday if this week will be different.
Barkley, Becton, Dickerson, Johnson, and Slay were listed under DNP due to rest on Wednesday. They were upgraded to full on Thursday.
Non-injury practice news in the form of jersey number updates: new practice squad quarterback Ian Book is wearing No. 13 while Lew Nichols is wearing No. 38.
Book wore No. 19 in his first stint with the Eagles. Rough. This is a better look for Book.
Nichols wore No. 38 with the Eagles back in training camp. Nice for him to get his old number … but not a great number.

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)
The Cowboys are shutting CeeDee Lamb down for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
That’s a significant break for Vic Fangio’s defense. Lamb only had six receptions for 21 yards against the Eagles back in Week 10 but he’s averaged seven catches for 85.5 yards in six games since then as the Cowboys have gone 4-2.
Lamb’s absence leaves the Cowboys with the following wide receivers:
- Jalen Tolbert (32.1 yards per game)
- Brandin Cooks (24.0 yards per game)
- KaVontae Turpin (23.4 yards per game)
- Jalen Brooks (13.8 yards per game)
- Ryan Flournoy (9.4 yards per game)
- Jonathan Mingo (1.7 yards per game)
Not exactly the most threatening group.
And from that bunch, Brooks and Tolbert are also listed on the injury report this week.
The Eagles’ defense MUST be able to smother Rush and the Cowboys’ passing attack in this one.
The Cowboys have four new additions to Thursday’s report.
Starting tackle Chuma Edoga was added under DNP. He’s been playing in place of rookie Tyler Guyton, who got benched.
Starting safety Donovan Wilson was added under DNP. He’s suddenly dealing with a knee injury.
Starting safety Malik Hooker was added under DNP due to personal reasons.
Amani Oruwariye, who has been starting at cornerback with Trevon Diggs injured, was added under limited due to a foot injury.
All told, the Cowboys are pretty banged up and it seems like they might be leaning into tanking now that they’ve been officially eliminated from playoff contention.
