A change to Philadelphia’s offensive line depth.
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced three roster moves on Friday. An overview:
- OL Jack Driscoll was placed on injured reserve.
- OL Brett Toth was signed from the practice squad to the active roster.
- WR Joe Ngata was signed to the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
JACK DRISCOLL
Driscoll was unexpectedly added to Thursday’s injury report with an ankle issue. Apparently that practice injury is serious enough to the point where Driscoll won’t be able to play again this season.
Driscoll was serving as the Eagles’ eighth offensive lineman behind the five starters and top backup tackle Fred Johnson and top backup guard Tyler Steen.
Driscoll’s injury opens up an opportunity for either Nick Gates, Darian Kinnard, Trevor Keegan, or Toth to be kept active as the eighth offensive lineman. Guessing it’ll be Gates or Kinnard?
BRETT TOTH
Toth was considered a candidate to make the 53-man roster this season since he was regularly getting first-team reps in offseason practices. Instead, Toth has spent the season on the Eagles’ practice squad. In theory, he has the versatility to play multiple offensive line positions.
JOE NGATA
Previously listed on the Eagles’ roster as “Joseph Ngata,” they’re now referring to him as “Joe Ngata.”
Ngata originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent 2023 on the practice squad and competed for a roster spot during the 2024 offseason. Ngata was waived/injured in late August and now he’s rejoining the Eagles on their practice squad.
The Eagles re-signing Ngata comes at a time when A.J. Brown has been dealing with a knee injury and DeVonta Smith is newly dealing with back tightness. They’re both expected to play in the Eagles’ Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers but the Eagles are building up some more wide receiver depth for practice purposes.
Ngata is now one of four wide receivers on the Eagles’ practice squad. The other three: Parris Campbell, Danny Gray, and Kyle Philips.
