The Philadelphia Eagles will be needing to find a new doctor’s office to partner with.
According to Becker’s Orthopedic Review, the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute has ended its relationship with the Eagles, citing “future malpractice risk.” Per the report, the decision stems from an incident last year where a former member of the Eagles won over $43 million in a lawsuit, which Rothman was partially liable for. The team had been a partner with Rothman since 2004.
“Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute broke ties with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles over future malpractice risk, a spokesperson for the practice confirmed to Becker’s,” the outlet reported.
“In February 2023, former Eagles team captain Chris Maragos won a $43.5 million jury verdict in his lawsuit that named a Pittsburgh-based physician with UPMC and the practice.
“Rothman, which is liable for $15.8 million, of that verdict, is appealing, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported June 18.
“The practice, along with Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health, has been a partner with the team since 2004.”
Maragos was a member of the Eagles from 2014 to 2018, but his career ended in Week 6 with a season-ending injury against the Carolina Panthers. The team went on to win the Super Bowl that year, earning him a second career ring (Seahawks, 2013).
Maragos retired in 2019 after being released by the Eagles a few months prior.
