It’s still unknown if the ‘U’ is back. Still, the Florida Gators are a long way from the Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer years after a 41-17 blowout loss to Miami that has some experts wondering if the Hurricanes are for a playoff contender.
Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns as No. 19 Miami dominated Florida in the Swamp in front of disappointed fans and alum such as Tim Tebow and Jevon Kearse.
Another former Gators star upset by the loss was Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
As a true freshman at Florida, Gardner-Johnson appeared in all 14 games, starting the season’s final seven games. During the 2017 Outback Bowl, Gardner-Johnson had two tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown against Iowa, earning the MVP of the Outback Bowl. Gardner-Johnson started in all 11 games as a sophomore, and after his junior season, he declared for the NFL draft, getting selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Now one of the best safeties in the NFL, Gardner-Johnson vented during and after the Gators’ loss.
On Sunday afternoon, Gardner-Johnson hosted a live discussion on X/Twitter, giving Florida fans an opportunity to vent.
Social media reacts to everything, and Gardner-Johnson, playing therapist to SEC fans, was no different.
