Zack Baun, Philadelphia Eagles, Agree to Contract
After four unremarkable years with the Saints, Zack Baun signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2024 offseason. The Wisconsin product easily outplayed his deal, starting and appearing in 16 games while recording one interception, four passes defended, five forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, 151 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, and five quarterback hits.
This fantastic season earned him Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors as the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl in blowout fashion against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Baun originally entered the league as a third-round in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the New Orleans Saints, the Wisconsin product played a minor role as a rookie. Appearing in 15 games, Baun finished his inaugural season with 12 tackles and one tackle-for-loss. The Saints won the NFC South that season but saw their Super Bowl hopes come to an end with a loss to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The linebacker earned a slightly larger role in 2021 but continued to primarily see the field in sub packages. Appearing in 17 games while making four starts, Baun finished the final year of Sean Payton’s reign with 30 tackles and two quarterback hits.
Dennis Allen took over for Payton in 2022, but Baun couldn’t improve with his former defensive coordinator running the team. Playing in 13 games with one start, the linebacker recorded just 16 tackles and one tackle-for-loss on the season. He improved in 2023, recording two sacks and 30 tackles before leaving in free agency.
Since signing his rookie contract, Zack Baun has appeared in 78 games while making 30 starts. While on the field, the veteran has recorded 5.5 sacks, 239 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, and 13 quarterback hits.
