After an end to his time with the Giants, and a lifetime of jokes from Joe Schoen and John Mara on Hard Knocks willingly letting Saquon hit free agency so they could pay Daniel Jones.
It looks like Saquon Barkley signing with the Eagles might’ve been the best deal of the offseason.
Just years after a dilemma about paying for running backs to a large contract. Three of the leagues best were signed to multi-year deals.
Christian McCaffrey – 2 Years, $38M
Saquon Barkley – 3 Years, $37.75M
Derrick Henry – 2 Years, $16M
One Season Later
In his first year as a Philadelphia Eagle, Saquon Barkley shattered multiple franchise records, rushed for the 9th most yards in a single game, and joined an exclusive club.
Finishing the season 1st in the league with 2,005 rushing yards in 16 games. Saquon became the 9th member to be in the 2,000 yard club. Joining Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders and Derrick Henry.
Understandable why he was the run away victor for Offensive Player Of The Year, with 35 of the 1st place votes.
While the stats might not have been enough to secure first place MVP votes. The Eagles managed to finish the season with a piece of hardware everyone gets to take home.
Super Bowl Champs
At the end of the season, there’s only one goal.
Win the Super Bowl.
And the Eagles did just that.
While he might not have been the Super Bowl MVP. The Eagles probably don’t make it as far as they did without Saquon’s performances through the playoffs:
Wildcard Vs Packers: 25 attempts, 119 yards, 2 targets, 2 receptions, 4 yards
Divisional Vs Rams: 26 attempts, 205 yards, 2 touchdowns, 4 targets 4 receptions, 27 yards
NFCCG Vs Commanders: 15 attempts 118 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 targets, 1 reception, 4 yards
Super Bowl 59: 25 attempts, 57 yards, 7 targets, 6 receptions, 40 yards
More To Come
There’s still going to be another two years of Saquon terrorizing the NFC East and the Eagles have already achieved the ultimate prize.
Kellen Moore might’ve moved on to the Saints, but the majority of the Eagles 11 offensive starters should be back for next season.
And with the cap rising at least another $22M during this offseason. The Eagles will have decisions to make with their upcoming free agents.
