The NFL regular season is soaring toward its conclusion and straight to the NFL Playoffs. The playoff bracket is taking shape and seeds are being locked up. What about the Philadelphia Eagles? They went on a 10-game win streak and looked to rival the Lions for the number one seed. Is that still possible after their loss to the Commanders? What about the division? Here’s everything you need to know about the Eagles playoff seed.
Eagles Playoff Seed Scenarios
There weren’t many smiles to go around after yesterday’s heartbreaking loss. However, there are a few points to salvage. The first is that the Eagles already have at minimum a playoff spot locked up. While they didn’t help their seed yesterday by losing, they also eliminated the division-rival Cowboys from postseason contention. Also, the team’s playoff positioning didn’t change as they still hold the two seed with a two-game lead over the Commanders for the division.
According to Fansided, here are the Eagles playoff seed clinching scenarios. The Birds can seal the division over the next two weeks if they can beat either the Dallas Cowboys or the New York Giants. Overall, this is probably the best possible scenario after a tough loss. The team still controls its destiny for the division crown and they’ve already beaten both opponents handily on the road. This time around, they will face both opponents with home-field advantage. Probably the biggest thing that helps them though, is they will hopefully be getting Jalen Hurts back healthy after suffering a concussion in the Commanders’ loss.
Even if they somehow aren’t able to beat either of those teams though, The Commanders still have to take on a playoff contender in the Falcons next week. If the Commanders lose one of their next two games the Eagles would clinch the Divison as well.
That Division win would ideally leave the Eagles at the two seed possibly taking on Washington for a third go-around in the Wild Card Round. The coveted number one seed on the other hand just got a bit murkier.
Fansided reported that yesterday’s loss was Philly’s last affordable error for the rest of the year. If they want a slim chance at the number one seed, Philly would need to win both their next two games, Detroit would have to lose against both the 49ers and Vikings, and the Vikings would have to lose to either the Seahawks or Packers. The definition of “So you’re telling me there’s a chance.”
The Worst Case Scenario
The absolute worst-case scenario would be losing the next two games and Washington winning the next two games to take the division. That would plummet the Eagles down into the Wildcard round to have to face their rival on the road potentially.
However, it will be interesting to see how things shape up over the next two weeks. Most scenarios lead to a positive outcome for Philly, we’ll just have to wait and see.
