In a huge move late in the portal cycle, Villanova has landed Richmond graduate transfer Tyler Burton following his visit on Saturday.
“Villanova’s culture and history of success with players at my position felt like the right fit and right choice,” Burton told ZAGSBLOG. “I look forward to getting there and getting to work.”
The 6-foot-7 senior forward averaged 19.0 points and 7.4 rebounds last season for the Spiders, shooting 45% from the field and 29% from deep. The Uxbridge, Mass., native and All-Atlantic 10 first-team selection reached double-figures in all 33 games this past season.
As a junior, he averaged 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Burton declared for the NBA Draft worked out for several teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, but ultimately opted to transfer.
He joins Lance Ware (Kentucky), T.J. Bamba (Washington State) and Hakim Hart (Maryland) among transfer additions for second-year coach Kyle Neptune. The Wildcats also return forward Eric Dixon and fifth-year guard Justin Moore.
After missing the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 2012, Villanova appears loaded and ready to get back to the Dance.
