Legendary college basketball head coach Jay Wright is reportedly expected to retire, according to multiple reports on Wednesday night.
Wright, a two-time national title-winning head coach, is only 60 years old, but we’re seeing more head coaches make decisions like this, both professionally and collegiately.
Now, according to multiple reports on Wednesday night, the Villanova head coach is expected to retire.
“Villanova’s Jay Wright — one of college basketball’s iconic coaches and a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer — is seriously contemplating retiring this offseason, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Wright, 60, is meeting with his family and making final decision soon,” Shams Charania reports.
“Jay Wright is likely retiring as head coach of Villanova soon, sources said, and that means a succession plan is in order for the university.”

The decision has reportedly been confirmed by multiple outlets.

Wright is one of the best head coaches in college basketball. He was viewed by some as arguably the replacement to the face of the sport in the wake of Coach K’s retirement.
But now, both the Duke and Villanova head coaches will be retiring in the same year.
Villanova will now have a decision to make at head coach.
