The Big East announced its major individual awards on Wednesday afternoon, before the start of the Big East Tournament.
The stage is set for the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Before we tip off the postseason in search of the top team this week, the Big East revealed who were the top individuals this season on Wednesday.
Providence guard Devin Carter was named the 2024 Big East Player of the Year, while UConn coach Dan Hurley was tabbed as Big East Coach of the Year. UConn guard Stephon Castle was unanimously voted Big East Freshman of the Year. Marquette’s Oso Ighodaro was chosen as Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Big East head coaches make the selections and are not permitted to vote for their own players.
The Big East unveiled its conference player of the year, coach of the year, freshman of the year and scholar-athlete of the year before the Xavier-Butler game tips off on Wednesday at 4 p.m. On Monday, it crowned the conference defensive player of the year, sixth man award, sportsmanship award-winner and most improved player.
The 2023-24 All-Big East teams were announced on Sunday afternoon.
