There’s four weekends to go before the annual Penn State-Ohio State game. Ahead of that big game, a series of Penn State alumni breweries are releasing a brand new beer to mark the occasion.
A group of around a dozen breweries with ties to Penn State have collaborated to introduce “Buckeyes Tears,” a Cold India Pale Ale with a 4.09-percent ABV and features a label with an image of Brutus Buckeye crying. The beer is set to be released both on tap and in cans in early October – just in time for the October 21 showdown at Ohio Stadium.
“The network of Penn State alumni is vast and proud,” Breweries in PA announced on social media. “We wanted a way to highlight all they have gone on to do since graduating from the university and starting small businesses across PA. Obviously no harm is meant, we just think ‘Buckeye Tears’ is the perfect name for a beer that will honor Penn State heading to the National Championship in 2023! No one in Ohio wants to see that.”
Penn State fans loved it while Buckeyes fans pointed out that they could be in trouble with Ohio State’s licensing department:
Excited to share our next statewide beer collab. “Buckeye Tears” will release early October at 12 Penn State alumni owned breweries across PA
The 4.09% Cold IPA is the perfect tailgating beer & #WeAre certain you’ll love it

“Okay I was going to say maybe we shouldn’t be calling it buckeye tears because they routinely beat us but I think every single one of their fans that have ever existed has commented on this so maybe it’s true,” one Nittany Lions fan replied.
“Have you heard of Ohio State’s Trademark and Licensing Services? You will,” a Buckeyes fan warned with a laughing emoji.
“Penn State is 5-18 against Ohio State this century lmao,” a third said.
It’ll be pretty hard for Penn State fans to enjoy that beer if they get trounced by Ohio State. But if they get the win, it’ll be a whole lot sweeter.
