It’s been a interesting week for Penn State media. After an internal controversy with one reporter earlier this week, head coach James Franklin took issue with how some recent comments he made were portrayed.
Earlier this week Franklin was accused of taking a shot at Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh by talking about teams that were “buying out game contracts.” But when he spoke to the media on Thursday, he admonished people for taking him out of context, not reading the transcripts or watching the interviews.
“It can be frustrating and a little sad sometimes when you have non-media members but they have some social media presence and they put something out that is not accurate,” Franklin said. “Then some national media don’t read the transcript or don’t watch the interview, then they put something out there.
“Anybody that watched the entire interview or anybody that read the whole transcript, I was actually complimenting the schools from a scheduling perspective… It’s what we’ve been doing. Even in the question that was asked to me, that’s what was said.”
“I know every fan base and different schools are looking for a reason to get angry and get mad and get motivated or something… But that to me is disappointing when real media members grab a partial quote and use it out of context. That’s frustrating and disappointing.”
Penn State coach James Franklin almost never gives an opening statement before a Wednesday media scrum.
He made an exception tonight.
He was not happy with how some perceived his Tuesday comments regarding non-conference scheduling.
