With only eight undefeated’s left in the AP Top 25, 247’s Brad Crawford recently took the time to rank the nation’s best one-loss teams with just over a month left in the college football regular season.
There’s no shortage of very talented teams that might’ve had a slip-up thus far. But one stands above the rest in the eyes of this CFB analyst: the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Writes Crawford:
Penn State coach James Franklin said he felt like he was watching two of college football’s best teams during the Nittany Lions’ loss to Ohio State on Saturday. Maybe he’s right? Prior to sinking into quicksand offensively against the Buckeyes, Penn State was clicking in all areas and blitzing the competition in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions’ response from here is the most important factor in Penn State’s potential 11-1 finish and at-large Playoff berth if the Nittany Lions beat Michigan.
The rest of the list features a number of other programs vying for the playoff. Including: Texas, Alabama, Oregon State, Oregon, Utah, Missouri, Ole Miss, UNC and Tulane.
The first six teams in the Top 25 have yet to lose. That could change soon though with some tough conference matchups coming up.
