The Golden State Warriors may have found their replacement for Klay Thompson.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors are acquiring Buddy Hield via sign-and-trade. In order to make this deal work, they’re sending a 2031 second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Hield, a former first-round pick from Oklahoma, started the 2023-24 season on the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 12.0 points and 2.7 assists per game before being traded to Philly.
In 32 games with the 76ers, Hield made 38.9 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. On paper, he should form a nice duo with Steph Curry. After all, they’re the leaders for most 3-pointers made over the last five seasons.
Hield isn’t the only former Philly player joining the Warriors this offseason. They recently used their non-taxpayer midlevel exception on De’Anthony Melton.
Additionally, the Warriors signed Kyle Anderson to a three-year, $27 million contract. He’ll give Steve Kerr’s squad a role player capable of running the offense when Curry is on the bench.
Will these offseason transactions be enough to make the Warriors a playoff team? We’ll find out next season. For now, it still seems like they’ll need more firepower if they want to become a true contender in the Western Conference.
