Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has reportedly resumed on-court work as he recovers from a hamstring injury and is set to be re-evaluated early next week.
Can it be? Might we be inching closer to seeing the Philadelphia 76ers’ Big 3 actually play a game together?
Tyrese Maxey, the latest piece of the trio to be sidelined, is progressing in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday morning that the guard has resumed on-court work and is set to be re-evaluated early next week.
Sixers say that Tyrese Maxey has been resumed on-court work and will be reevaluated early next week. He’s here at shootaround in Orlando but will not play tonight.

Maxey will miss the contest Friday against the Orlando Magic in the NBA Cup but is with the team in Orlando. Mizell also reported that Andre Drummond, who missed the Sixers’ last game with an illness, was not at shootaround Friday morning and is currently questionable to play. After Friday’s game, the Sixers will then have the weekend off before traveling in Florida on Monday to take on the Miami Heat.
This began back on Nov. 6 when Maxey exited the Sixers’ contest against the Los Angeles Clippers with what the team originally classified as a precautionary move for hamstring tightness. It turned out to be a little more than that after evaluation, with ESPN’s Shams Charania reporting the next day that Maxey would miss “a couple of weeks”.

We are just eight days removed from that report that claimed he’d miss multiple weeks, so any progression in the right direction this soon feels like good news.
The Sixers’ Big 3 trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George and Maxey have yet to play a single game together. It’s been an insane game of whack-a-mole with the three—every time one gets back on the court, another one gets sidelined. It’s been a rough go to say the least. The only thing that might be keeping Sixers’ fans at least somewhat invested right now is the stellar early season of rookie Jared McCain, but it’s just not enough to carry the Sixers to victories. At 2-9, the 76ers are currently faring better than just one team in the NBA, the 2-10 Toronto Raptors.
Hopefully this Maxey report is a step in the direction of actually having all their weapons at their disposal sooner rather than later.
The Sixers will tip off with the Orlando Magic Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
