Déjà vu!

This news comes shortly after he was waived about a week ago. But why would the Sixers waive him only to re-sign him to a similar contract? There could be several reasons for this decision. Perhaps the team wanted to give him a chance to explore his market value. It’s also possible they initially thought Andre Drummond and Joel Embiid would return sooner than expected. Another explanation might involve salary cap or tax apron considerations — Nance’s two-way deal would’ve been guaranteed for the season if they’d kept him past Jan. 7. Take a pick!
Before being waived, Nance was delivering some of his best basketball in the G League. In his final game with the Delaware Blue Coats, he put up an impressive stat line: 28 points, six rebounds and two steals while shooting 11-of-15 from the field. So far, he has only played one game for the Sixers, logging just three minutes. However, if the previously mentioned injuries to Drummond and Embiid persist, we might see much more of him on the court. Before bringing back Nance, Guerschon Yabusele — who we all know is more of a four — and rookie second-rounder Adem Bona were the only healthy big men on the roster.
The Sixers will be without both Drummond and Embiid for Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, giving Nance what could be his first of many opportunities to prove himself. Time will tell if he can make a strong enough impression to stick with the team moving forward.
