The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to either waive or trade Paul Reed. The Sixers would create $9.2 million in cap space if he is waived. Last offseason, the Sixers matched his three-year, $23.5 million offer sheet he signed with the Utah Jazz. The contract contained a clause that would guarantee his salary for Years 2 and 3 if the Sixers advanced to the second round of the playoffs this past season. Because the Sixers were eliminated by the New York Knicks in the first round, then Reed can be waived without the guarantee.
Reed averaged career highs in points (7.3), rebounds (6.0), assists (1.3), blocks (1.0) and minutes (19.4). But Reed struggled in the playoffs, averaging 1.5 points on 44.4% shooting along with 2.7 rebounds in 7.2 minutes.
Reed is represented by Ron Shade.
