The Sixers will continue onward without Joel Embiid and Paul George as the duo were ruled out for their next contest hosting the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers returned from their quick two-game road trip after Sunday’s win over the Indiana Pacers and were back to practice on Tuesday. That meant time for an update regarding Joel Embiid and Paul George!
Not the most exciting update came, unfortunately. Both Embiid and George have been ruled out for the team’s Wednesday contest hosting former teammate Tobias Harris and the Detroit Pistons, the Sixers announced Tuesday.
Embiid and George have both missed the first three games of the regular season to this point and will now miss the fourth. George missing games wasn’t the biggest shock after he suffered a visible bone bruise in his left knee during a preseason contest, but Embiid’s absence (chalked up to injury management for his left knee) was a bit more surprising for fans. Regardless, the team continuously stuck with the line that they both were “progressing” and would be reevaluated after this past weekend.
That has come and gone now, and the next reevaluation will be later this week, according to the team. After Wednesday’s contest against an 0-4 Pistons team, the Sixers will have another two days off before they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday evening, so that’ll be the next opportunity to see either player begin their season.
The duo did participate in portions of practice, however.
Sixers say Joel Embiid and Paul George are out tomorrow vs. Detroit. They participated in portions of practice today, and will be re-assessed later in the week.

Sixers’ head coach Nick Nurse did not provide further information on the situation when asked by reporters at practice.
The Sixers are 1-2 in their first three games of the season with the duo sidelined. It’s been a rollercoaster, from a pathetic loss to a shorthanded Toronto Raptors team to finally grabbing their first win of the campaign thus far in an overtime thriller against the Indiana Pacers.
The Sixers, sans Embiid and George, will tip off with the Pistons at 7 p.m. ET tomorrow night at the Wells Fargo Center.
