The Sixers are inching towards getting Tyrese Maxey back on the floor after a hamstring injury sidelined the guard for the past six games.
Hey, some good news!
Tyrese Maxey will make his return Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies after missing the previous six games with a right hamstring strain, per multiple reports. It’s been mentioned that Maxey will be on a heavy minutes restriction.

That means this will be our first look at the team’s Big 3 with Joel Embiid and Paul George both active as well. It will also be our potential first extended look at a backcourt featuring Maxey and standout rookie Jared McCain.
Oh my goodness, we might have some positive Philadelphia 76ers news here! Is that allowed?
The team’s injury report for tomorrow officially upgrades guard Tyrese Maxey to questionable for tomorrow’s game visiting the Memphis Grizzlies. Maxey has missed the past six games with a hamstring strain.
Kyle Lowry is out for the contest with a hip injury that will reportedly sideline him for at least the next three games, according to Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Before this hiatus, Maxey played in the first seven games of the season, carrying a bulk of the offensive load for the Sixers with Joel Embiid and Paul George both injured to start the campaign. He was averaging 27.6 points playing a massive 39.7 minutes per outing when he exited the Sixers’ Nov. 6 contest against the Los Angeles Clippers early with the hamstring injury. He has been ruled out of every game since, with his availability status first being upgraded to questionable on Tuesday night. A step in the right direction, at least.
And hey, at this point, the prospect of seeing Maxey go to work alongside rookie Jared McCain is just about the only thing to look forward to with this team at the moment.
This is the second Maxey headline Tuesday, with the first coming earlier when details emerged regarding the team’s postgame meeting in the locker room after Monday night’s loss to the Miami Heat. Maxey apparently confronted teammate Joel Embiid about some recent actions of his.
In the meeting, Maxey challenged Embiid to be on time to team activities, calling out the former league MVP about being late “for everything” and how it impacts the locker room, from other players to the coaching staff, sources briefed on the meeting told ESPN.
So I’m sure Maxey is not looking forward to media availability postgame tomorrow if he does play. But I digress.
We will keep you posted on Maxey’s availability as more information becomes available. The Sixers and Grizzlies tip-off Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
