The Philadelphia 76ers season is going poorly. In fact, the Sixers are currently projected to have a top-10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. However, Paul George just had his best game in a Sixers uniform.

In 40 minutes, George tallied 33 points, eight assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one block against the Charlotte Hornets. The nine-time All-Star was also incredibly efficient, going 13-20 from the field and 6-9 from distance to help lead a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia squad to a victory. In the process, he moved into the top-10 in career threes made, passing Jason Terry.
Ironically, like Terry, George was selected 10th overall in the NBA Draft.

George now has 2,285 career three-pointers. With that being said, Hall of Fame forward Vince Carter is just ahead of him with 2,290 career threes. As a result, George could move even further up the all-time rankings by the end of the week. The Sixers face the Hornets again on Dec. 20 and then play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 21.

It’s almost strange to think that there was a time that the Fresno State product was told not to shoot three-pointers, as he revealed on Podcast P With Paul George.
Rounding The Corner
Myriad factors have contributed to the Sixers’ sluggish start, the most glaring of which is their poor injury luck. Entering the 2024-25 season, Philadelphia’s health concerns were already a talking point. So much so that neither Embiid nor George expected to be fully cleared for many, if any, back-to-backs. However, they couldn’t have expected this.
Embiid has played just six games this season. This was primarily due mainly due to his nagging knee injury but now the former MVP has sustained a sinus fracture. George has played just 14 games this season after hyperextending his knee on two separate occasions. Tyrese Maxey, who should be no worse than the third option most nights, missed nearly a fortnight with a hamstring injury. Jared McCain, who broke out as the Rookie of the Year favorite, has been ruled out indefinitely with a torn meniscus.
In going 4-2 over their last six games though, there’s reason to be optimistic. Maxey and George’s performance against the Hornets must be taken with a grain of salt as Charlotte isn’t currently a playoff-contender. Nonetheless, they and the rest of their team look like they’re rounding a corner.
