The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly making another move just days after the franchise was first reported to be signing Lonnie Walker IV — now they bring in G League big Alex Reese.
The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly signing Alex Reese to a two-way NBA contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.

Reese has had an interesting path in his young basketball career. The 6-foot-9 big stepped away from the game after going undrafted in 2021 following four lackluster seasons at the University of Alabama. He had appeared in 124 contests for the Crimson Tide in that span, starting 36 of those, and averaged 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in his senior season.
Out of college and without a team, Reese spent a year off of the court, working as a bartender and moving furniture. Then, in 2022, he made his return to the game, signing with Amicale Steesel of the Luxembourg Basketball League. In 27 games there, he averaged 23.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in 33.1 minutes per outing.
Reese returned stateside in late October 2023, briefly joining the Rio Grand Valley Vipers (G League affiliate for the Houston Rockets) before being waived just over a week later. Rip City Remix (G League affiliate of Oklahoma City Thunder) then claimed him off waivers and that is precisely where he has spent the vast majority of the last two seasons. In 16 games this campaign with the Remix, Reese is posting 19.3 points a night on 49.4% field goal shooting and 42.1% from long range (on a 9.1 attempt per game clip). He is also averaging 7.5 rebounds per game (2.4 offensive), 1.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 blocks per contest.
The 25-year-old has only appeared in one NBA contest. On Oct. 27, 2024, Reese played just two minutes for the Oklahoma City Thunder, putting up two points and an offensive rebound in that short debut. Shortly thereafter, he returned to the G League with the Remix.
The Sixers do not have to make any corresponding move to fit Reese in, with the franchise currently holding two open two-way contract spots of the maximum of three. Only Jeff Dowtin Jr. is currently on a two-way deal with Philadelphia.
The news comes just two days after Charania reported that the Sixers will be signing Lonnie Walker IV to a two-year, $3 million deal. The team has not yet made that signing official.
