The 76ers are reportedly interested in a Jimmy Butler reunion.
Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers are prepared to offer Butler a max extension if the Miami Heat star is traded back to the City of Brotherly Love.
Earlier this month, Heat president Pat Riley shot down the idea of trading Butler but later said: “there are a possibility a lot of things are on the table. It’s not about getting another star. You get another star, your bench gets weaker.”
According to Pompey, Philly’s first point of order is to try to sign Paul George in free agency. But if that doesn’t work out they’d be more than open to pursuing a trade for Jimmy.
The Sixers view him as a fallback option if they are unable to sign Paul George in free agency. And, according to sources, the Sixers are prepared to give Butler a maximum-salary extension if things align and he forces a trade out of Miami.
The 76ers have a good amount of cap space and will be looking to utilize it to upgrade the team’s roster for next season.
Butler last played for Philadelphia in 2017-18 where he appeared in 55 games after being acquired from Minnesota.
