The Sixers could use all the help they can get right now, but will be missing another key rotation player for the next few games as Kyle Lowry is expected to miss some time.
A 2-11 record, last place in the Eastern Conference, and team meetings where Tyrese Maxey has to challenge Joel Embiid to hold the former MVP accountable. It’s safe to say it’s been a brutal start to the season for the Sixers.
While our next bit of news for today isn’t too significant, it still doesn’t help matters. Kyle Lowry is now officially listed as out with a right hip strain.
Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer also reported that Lowry will be out for the next three games, and has had an MRI and will be reevaluated next week.
Lowry started the season with a great six-game stretch. He scored in double digits four times, buried an average of 2.5 threes a night, and generally did all the little things he does well. Since then, he’s been ice cold and is in need of a bounce-back performance. Nevertheless, the Sixers need depth and stability right now, so hopefully for the team Lowry is back after these next three games.
One big positive, though, is that Maxey, who’s been recovering from a right hamstring strain, has been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday’s game against Memphis. If he does return to bring back his signature (and much-needed) energy and terrific three-level scoring, maybe that can light a bit of a fire in this squad. And if Maxey is back, it will then be up to Jeff Dowtin Jr. and/or Reggie Jackson to take on more backup minutes.
Fortunately Jared McCain has been a major bright spot in an otherwise ugly start to the season. Apart from showcasing impressive scoring, his improving driving, footwork, and playmaking chops make it easier for the backcourt to manage times like this as well.
