Politician's Old Tweet About Joel Embiid Goes Viral After 70-Point Game

LeBron James was once implored to “stick to sports” by a political commentator. Well, at least one person probably should have “stuck to politics” after an old take on Joel Embiid went viral.

Back in June 2014, former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia mayor Ed Rendell declared that the Philadelphia 76ers made a mistake by drafting Embiid No. 3 overall over Doug McDermott. He said that the 76ers would regret the move for “years to come.”

“Joel Embid a great pick for Sixers but we will regret passing on Doug McDermott for years to come,” Rendell wrote back in 2014.

That tweet has gone viral again 10 years later and fans are having all kinds of fun with it. Some are calling it the single worst sports take of all-time:

One user pointed out that Rendell’s post might have been taken out of context as he might have been referring to the 76ers taking Elfrid Payton (who now plays in the G League) at No. 10 overall while letting McDermott go with the next pick.

Poor Ed Rendell has 4,000 dorks calling him racist and dunking on him for a correct tweet. He was complimenting the Embiid pick and saying the 6ers should’ve picked McDermott over Elfrid Payton at 10.

If that’s true, then maybe Ed Rendell knows ball a little bit more than we think he does.

Even so, anyone advocating for the 76ers to have taken anyone other than Embiid back in 2014 (except maybe Nikola Jokic) undoubtedly has egg on their face now.
